DOHA: Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs is organising a training course on sign language which is used to communicate with hearing-impaired people for a group of officers and non-commissioned officers of Traffic Department.

The course aims at educating sign language to the officers so they could communicate in a better way with hearing-impaired people in providing them services of Traffic Department, said a release.

A three-week training course will cover topics like communication skills to deal with people with impaired hearing, basic knowledge of sign language and advanced level of sign language through practical training. Many experts of sign language from reputed institutions have been invited to deliver lectures on said topics.

Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs, said that the training course is being held under the cooperation between the Society and the Ministry of Interior and its various departments, including the General Directorate of Traffic.

Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani said that it is part of the training plans of the Society which aims to rehabilitate persons with disabilities and provide ways to communicate with different sections of the society.

The move also aims at providing access for such segment to various services in all state facilities easily through easy and smooth communication between them and service providers of all levels like traffic officers and non-commissioned officers.

First Lt. Azan Abdullah Al Kathiri, Head of Training and Development Department of Traffic Awareness Department of the General Directorate of Traffic, said that the training course is aimed at educating traffic officers and introducing them sign language so that they can communicate with the people with hearing-impaired.
